On Friday, 30 January 2026, a special moment of recognition was celebrated in Vienna. Inside the conference hall of the Nigerian Mission in Vienna, DCI Ammani Mohammed was formally decorated on the occasion of his promotion to Deputy Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
A dignified setting at the Nigerian Mission
The event was clearly framed as a ceremonial occasion marked by respect, structure, and warmth. Guests experienced an atmosphere that was both dignified and welcoming, with a calm, pleasant tone throughout the proceedings. The ceremony conveyed genuine appreciation for public service and professional achievement.
International presence and distinguished guests
Vienna’s international community was visibly represented. Among the prominent attendees was the Secretary General of OPEC, His Excellency Haitham Al Ghais. The official decoration was carried out by the Head of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Nigeria in Vienna, Mr Muyiwa Onifade, with Dr Haitham Al Ghais assisting as an honoured guest, underscoring the significance of the moment.
Officers and staff of the Embassy were present, alongside representatives of Vienna based international organisations and members of the Nigerian community in Austria.
ÖNFG in attendance: a sign of connection and partnership
Representatives of the ÖNFG also attended the ceremony. Their presence reflected a spirit of connection and constructive engagement between communities and institutions in Austria and Nigeria. In a city like Vienna, where international cooperation is part of everyday life, such gatherings highlight the importance of personal exchange, mutual respect, and recognition.
Recognition for tangible contributions
The ceremony centred on DCI Ammani Mohammed’s service and impact. Speakers highlighted the positive progress and improvements within the immigration function of the Nigerian Mission in Vienna over the past three years, describing the promotion as a well deserved milestone.
An evening that brought people together
More than a change of rank, the occasion served as a reminder of what ceremonial moments can achieve: bringing people together, acknowledging service, and strengthening relationships in a setting defined by dignity and a genuinely pleasant atmosphere.
ÖNFG extends its congratulations to DCI Ammani Mohammed on his promotion and wishes him continued success and clarity of purpose in his important responsibilities.
